MARKETS & EQUIPMENT BRAND LINESWestec Industries, Inc. 8101 7th Avenue South Seattle, WA 98108 (206)764-4541 | WESTECNEWSVolume 3, Fall 1999 WESTEC’S LARGEST PROJECT YET This summer Westec Industries completed its largest contract to date the design and erection of a complex multi-phase aggregate plant for Concrete Nor' West's Butler Pit near Burlington, Washington. The new plant consists of a combination wash/crush plant with a high capacity automated reclaim and load out system that allows for unattended operation by drivers who can specify product and load size using a "credit card" and keypad to load their trucks. According to Westec President, Ed Christiansen, this project has kept everyone at Westec busy since last fall when Westec secured the bid for this high capacity combination wash/crush plant. "This has been a big job for us, and I am very proud of the system we’ve built. I think it will set the standard for plant efficiency and quality, "said Christiansen.
The primary feed goes to a 6’ x 16’ scalping screen, which separates concrete aggregate from the pit feed. The scalp screen splits pit run at +1¼" forming two surge piles, one with concrete aggregate and the other for oversize material. The material reclaimed from the –1¼" surge pile is regulated through a belt feeder, which supplies the primary wash screen making a split between sand and coarse concrete aggregate. The sand is flumed to a Kolberg 12’ x 48’ sand tank which directs material to two sand screws producing building sand and fill sand. The building sand screw discharges onto a Deister high-frequency dewatering screen to assure a consistent moisture content and higher quality sand. This also enables Concrete Nor' West to have the products available for immediate use. Future plans include the possibility of making two specification sands and one fill sand. Coarse material concrete aggregates are sized on an 8’ x 20’ Deister dual mechanism wash screen that stock piles sized concrete products with fixed stockpiling conveyors. The oversize material is crushed using one standard and two short head cones working in combination with a Deister 8’ x 20’ triple deck finishing screen. The crusher system is designed with surge capacity ahead of each crusher to assure maximum capacity and consistent product gradation. Product quality is a top priority for Concrete Nor' West, so Westec designed in special features that assure that their customers are getting the very best product possible. The stock pile/reclaim system allows stockpiling of either individual crushed product or finished products providing Concrete Nor' West's customers with a constant supply of readily accessible specification material. The washed aggregate stockpiles supply 10,000 tons of live storage while the crushed aggregate stockpiles provides 6,000 tons of live storage." Two tunnel reclaim systems are provided to reclaim the finished product to four 110 ton load out bins mounted over a truck scale. Operating at 1,000 tons per hour through an automated control system assures the specified prod-duct is available at all times to Concrete Nor' West customers. The unique reclaim system combined with the automated controls provides Concrete Nor’ West customers with round the clock accessibility. "Concrete Nor' West has an innovative customer friendly load out system that supplies high quality products in combination with amazing convenience." Christiansen concluded, "You might say their products are on time all the time." Enviro-Clear Water SeparatorsWestec is proud to offer a new and innovative line of water separation equipment from Enviro-Clear Company. The Enviro-Clear Clarifier/Thickener represents a significant advance in the technology of solids/liquids separation.
Advantages include...... Faster Separation - Enviro-Clear units operate at rates from two to thirty times faster than traditional clarifiers. Simultaneous Superior Clarity Effluent and High Solids Underflow - Traditional units emphasize either Clarification or thickening. Enviro-Clear does both. Better Clarification - Slurries processing 40% initial solids are achieving 20 ppm. Higher Solids Concentration -Solids underflow concentrations can be improved from 15% to 60%. Reduced Space Requirements-Enviro-Clear units reduce both height and area needed. Compact design uses less than one tenth of the space required by conventional units. The Enviro-Clear system of solids/liquid separation efficiently utilizes chemical pre-treatment of the feed with control of the reaction times. The Enviro-Clear Clarifier/Thickener is designed so that the pre-treated feed is introduced at a controlled velocity in a horizontal direction into an active settling zone. This eliminates the free settling zone. Particles move at random through the settling zone promoting additional agglomeration with resulting acceleration of settling. The rakes aid in compaction of the solids while moving them to the discharge boot.
