WESTECNEWSVolume 5, Summer 2000PROJECT REPORT CONVEYOR OVERCOMES OBSTACLES ecently Westec Industries completed construction and installation of a 42" x 1,200 foot 150 HP overland conveyor for a major aggregate producer. Despite the fact that Westec has manufactured more than a dozen of these large conveyors reaching a combined length of over three miles, this one presented some unique challenges and required innovative engineering to overcome topographical obstacles. The producer needed the ability to mine adjacent deposits; however, they had to deal with several steep inclines and a highway that dissected the area. According to Westec President Ed Christiansen, finding an economical way to reach these deposits was the challenge.estec engineers developed a design for an overland conveyor that actually spans the state highway and delivers the aggregate to the existing plant on the far side. The 1,200 foot conveyor uses a combination of both channel frame and truss design intermediate sections to reach the roadway. pproaching the highway the conveyor makes an 18 degree climb using 150 HP drive to reach a clearance of 20 feet above the roadway. The 80 foot portion that spans the road is enclosed in a 10 foot diameter fabricated reinforced steel tunnel. The material then goes downhill on the far side of the highway to travel to the plant using a regenerative brake to control the flow. A cantilevered head terminal with horizontal gravity take-up and take-up tower create a large live surge pile where material is reclaimed by a Westec feeder. In order to meet the producer’s needs, the conveyor design had to be energy efficient, cost effective, and aesthetically acceptable. The steel tunnel also minimizes noise and prevents spillage. estec is proud to announce the acquisition of a new line of premium crushing equipment. When it comes to aggregate processing and C&D recycling, Lippmann Milwaukee, Inc. is the name you should know for reliable, quality crushing machinery at a value.
NEW AT WESTEC
Tank Works, Inc. Cement Silos Westec is proud to announce our new association with Montana Tank Works, Inc. of Billings, Montana . Montana Tank Works manufactures cement silos, portable cement silos, and other products for the ready-mix industry. With tank capacities ranging from 225-900 barrels and more than 28 years of tank manufacture experience, Montana Tank Works has equipment you need to make your plant run more smoothly. Westec installed one of our first Montana Tank Works Cement Silos this spring at Glacier Northwest’s ready-mix operations. The tank (shown left), was comprised of a 300 barrel silo with extended stand mounted up to an existing Ross batch plant. DON’T LET CRUSHER FINES TAKE A BITE OUT OF YOUR PROFITS
Flex-A-Thon BY TEMA ISSENMANN • PREVENTS BLINDING • MINIMIZES PLUGGING • INCREASES CAPACITY Flex-A-Thon is THE ANSWER for fine dry applications where damp sticky fines in feed material create the potential for blinding. Flex-A-Thon reduces downtime by eliminating the need for cleaning during production hours, reduces noise, and out lasts wire screen decks by years. This pretensioned perforated polyurethane membrane allows producers to continuously utilize the full capacity of their screen deck area. (Available in interchangeable modules or tension mat style.)
Customers are hearing a new voice when they call Westec this summer. We have a new secretary/receptionist, Leah Dobrowits. Leah comes with experience as a dispatcher so she can handle Westec’s office and phones with ease.
