Everything is Bigger in Alaska! for Central Paving Products, a subsidiary of Wilder Construction, in Palmer, Alaska this summer. Located about 50 miles northeast of Anchorage, Central Paving contracted with Westec to build a stacker and reclaim system to complement the installation of a 1000+ TPH dredge. These improvements were designed to make better use of aggregate reserves at Central Paving’s Palmer operation. Westec’s stockpile reclaim system was designed to dewater material and maximize material usage prior to loading it onto trains. The conveyor is a mammoth 48" by 225’ radial stacker operating off of a 30’ berm and capable of producing a 97’ high stockpile. It is equipped with dual 75 horsepower wrap drives, double walkways with drive platforms, and travels on a 115-pound steel rail. Designed to handle 1500 TPH of material operating in up to 80 mile per hour winds in a seismic level 4 earthquake zone it is a massive piece of equipment. The reclaim system consists of three 48" belt feeders with hydraulic cut off gates to feed single or blended products onto a 48" reclaim conveyor which in turn feeds the surge pile just before train loading. The 80 car trains are dedicated to the Central Paving operation and the system supplies one to two trains per day from Palmer to Anchorage. The 48" belt feeders are designed for 2000 TPH and use Westec’s roller beds to eliminate undulation between rolls and to minimize spillage and skirt board rubber wear. The feeders use an endless vulcanized belt design. The project was also under time constraints. Construction started in Westec’s fabrication shop in January of 2002 and was completed by March 31. It was then shipped by barge to Anchorage and trucked in to Palmer. Installation started in May with Lars Ejde, Westec’s Field Manager and seven crewmembers spending eight weeks on site to complete the assembly. The stacker uses all pin construction to facilitate easy disassembly and reassembly if needed. The system was operational in early June and it’s performance meets all expectations.G Got Rocks? In our ongoing pursuit to provide our customers the best aggregate equipment available, Westec is proud to offer Tramac stationary booms. Engineered to be the most durable and reliable hydraulic breakers available, Tramac’s CDB Series stationary booms were designed from the ground up to meet the demands of state of the art facilities. Massive heavy duty steel plate construction combined with a lowprofile design for long reach in tight spaces, make Tramac booms durable and practical. Unlike pedestal booms designed on backhoe technology, Tramac’s boom systems emphasize down pressure by placing the cylinder on top of the boom which translates into greater efficiency in breaking, minimal service requirements and longer equipment life. With a wide variety of boom and hammer sizes available, Tramac has the boom for your specific requirements and the experienced professionals to assist with your selection.
